1. What are the differences between ExSept Plus and Alcavis 50? ExSept Plus is classified as an antiseptic. It contains 1,100 ppm of available chlorine. It is safe for skin and mucous membranes, and is indicated for use on CVC and PD catheters as well as pre-canulation preparation. 2. How long do I need to cleanse the skin or catheter components when using ExSept Plus or Alcavis 50? Our procedure recommendation is 2 minutes of contact time when using either product. The solutions can be poured or sprayed (8-12 ml) onto a gauze pad. Ensure complete saturation. Manual contact using light friction is indicated. The products do not need to continue contact with skin or catheter materials longer than 2 minutes. 3. What are the shelf lives of ExSept Plus and Alcavis 50? Both products have a 30-month shelf life when stored under recommended conditions (avoiding extreme heat and cold). Once the product is uncapped, it will remain stable for 4 months. 4. Can these products become contaminated? ExSept Plus and Alcavis 50 cannot become contaminated. The nature and potency of the antimicrobial ingredient protects the product from contamination. The full potency of the active hypochlorite is available when bacteria, viruses or fungi are exposed to it. 5. Are ExSept Plus and Alcavis 50 considered bleach? Alcavis' products and bleach share antimicrobial properties. However, ExSept Plus and Alcavis 50 are a result of special manufacturing process of partial electrolysis of ultra-pure sodium chloride solutions following strict pharmaceutical protocols. Alcavis solutions do not need sodium hydroxide, as does bleach, to maintain stability. Sodium hydroxide is an irritant. 6. How are Alcavis Bleach-Wipes packaged? Alcavis Bleach-Wipes are pre-diluted with purified water to a concentration of 1:100 for surface disinfection. This is the most frequently cited CDC Guideline for medical surfaces and sensitive equipment. They are packaged in single or double towels, and are 8x10 inches. The single wipes are 100 each per box, and doubles are 50 each per box. 7. How does the ASSIST Header Cleaner work? The ASSIST is a reusable device designed to clean dialyzer headers without concern of damaging dialyzer fibers. It eliminates the need to remove the header from the dialyzer body, and facilitates a cleaner end product with Gambro Polyflux and Asahi polysulfone dialyzers.
